Ryssland? России?

Made it to St Petersburg (Санкт-Петербург) after two nights of ferry trips, an hour in a lineup for 'passport control' that extended all the way back to the boat, and the most disorganized bus tour in history. It's toasty here. 28 C... and feeling incredibly lost in cyrillic. Good thing I brought my handy dandy Russian phrasebook (thank you Lonely Planet). But still, never been in a place where I can't even pretend to think I can even recognize the symbols. New ones keep appearing, like the grand piano ( д ) and 6 ( б ) ? Anyway time to get ready for the Russian folk dinner tonight...??? Should be VERY interesting.

Wow... Blue

Check out that link for awesome Icelandic scenery and music by Grammy winning artist!
I can't figure out how to post the proper link from ipod.

Third day in Iceland now and I love this place. Just enough Scandinavianness to be familiar, but absolutely unique landscapes. Jökulsárlón, the glacial lagoon, was absolutely stunning. Apparently it has been featured in two Bond movies as well as in Batman Begins... will need to check that out. Plus the whole drive there was littered with cliffs, mountains, volcanoes (including Eyafjallajökul, the famous one to erupt two years ago), waterfalls, glaciers, Icelandic horses, and the hairiest sheep I've ever seen.

Still typing this from my ipod but I've got a bit of time to spare waiting for Tineka and Chieh. They are chilling in the Blue Lagoon, manmade hot pools. It's essentially a gorgeous spa. I would have liked to join them but didn't feel I could spare 40€ for an hour and a half of lounging and a silica mud mask. So instead, I took some pictures of them and am enjoying the views of snow on lava plains and steam blowing off the pools.

One guide I read compared the Blue Lagoon to the Eiffel Tower and to Disneyland... something to do with the combination of must-see and touristy. I disagree though, it really is a beautifully designed place with gorgeous surroundings.

Fun fact: Turns out my hostel, Kex, used to be a cookie factory.

More later.

Halló Reykjavík

Made it safely to Ísland for our weekend away! Looks a bit like Mars... Tomorrow a 14 hour glacier tour! Loving the city, super funky and unique. Hard to type this on my iPod so farewell for now!
