This is a semla...
Basically a gigantic cream puff. But today, shrove Tuesday, is dedicated to these magnificent buns. Just like cinnamon bun day (back in October) many of my Swedish acquaintances make these themselves at home.
Also for the Finns, Shrove Tuesday means Laskiainen... no idea what exactly that is, but it involves sledding, hot drinks, and Minttu. But, I joined my Finnish friends at Uppsala castle this afternoon to enjoy some improvisational sledding! Apparently technology students compete to build the best sledge, and everybody dresses in strange costumes. This afternoon we had a snow bunny and a penguin, but there weren't many of us prepared. I brought a roll of garbage bags for sledding, lucky I did because we only had one real sled among about 25 of us! Lots of fun racing, but a very sore bum at the moment.
